Data source and calculation principles

Origin of the data

The technical vehicle data displayed here is taken from the data bank of the motoring organization ADAC e.V. Vehicle data is not related to any individual vehicle and only applies to new vehicles. Results can thus not be transferred directly to older models. The vehicle data is only for the purpose of comparison between the various types or models of vehicle.

Further information on the official fuel consumption and the official specific CO₂ output of new passenger cars will be found in the "Guide to the fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions of new passenger cars"" published by DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Helmuth-Hirth-Strasse 1, D-73760 Ostfildern, Germany.

Calculation principles

The calculation principles are based on the average amounts taken from the ADAC Car Costs Database.

The cost comparison takes account of:

  • the manufacturer's purchase or list price
  • cost of oil changes and inspections
  • normal parts wear and the cost of replacing tires
  • road tax plus third-party and fully-comprehensive insurance at 50 percent (standard ADAC car insurance tariff without additional discounts)
  • fuel and oil refill costs (manufacturer's details of consumption in accordance with ECE)
  • fuel price per liter
  • depreciation

All details are as in 04/2016 and refer to the German market.
